How far in advance should you book your wedding band?

The short answer: 10 to 14 months

Book your band right after the venue and photographer, typically 10 to 14 months out. Bands take one wedding per date, so availability is strictly first come. In New Jersey, most Saturdays in September, October, May and June for the following year are claimed by the previous January.

Lead time by season

• —Peak Saturdays (May, June, September, October): 12-16 months.
• —Summer Saturdays (July, August): 9-12 months.
• —Fridays and Sundays year round: 6-9 months.
• —January through March: 4-6 months is often fine.

Booking late is not hopeless

Cancellations and date moves happen constantly. If you are inside six months, ask directly rather than assuming. Be ready to decide quickly, and be flexible on ensemble size — a five-piece may be free when the eight-piece is not.
